iSEARCH , spyware from hell
Ok, today I was browsing the net. Did not download anything, just played some mp3s then my browser shows iSearch toolbar. I cant remove it the normal way, so had to resort to adAware. How the hell on earth could I have gotten this bugger? Anyone familiar with it?

Well, you said you were browsing the net, so I'm guessing you got a cookie or something while browsing. Are you using IE, or another browser like FireFox? If you're using IE, I suggest you download Mozilla or Firefox. Both give you increased security, and I find that they are just plain better than IE.

Copied and pasted straight from the iSearch FAQ page:
How did I get the iSearch Toolbar? There are several ways that this could have happened: 1. You clicked on the "Yes" option when prompted to install the toolbar while visiting the iSearch Toolbar Web Page or one of our many partner sites. 2. The iSearch toolbar software may have been "bundled" with another application that you downloaded, in which case you had to explicitly agree to the installation of the iSearch Toolbar. 3. Your browser security settings may be set to "Low" or your "Download Signed Active-X Controls" setting may be set to "Yes" instead of "Prompt" or "No". This is not a recommended security setting. The iSearch Toolbar is installed using "Active-X", if your settings are set to allow Active-X, then you may receive the toolbar without receiving any prompts. |
