Can't watch a movie

When I try to open the video with Windows media player, real player, and winamp the program closes by itself. When I try to use DivX player the video doesnt play even when I press play. I can scroll the bar to skip it but it doesnt play.

If you didn't have the proper codec, I would think it would give you an error message. Does this happen with any movie file, if it's just one in particular, could be a bad file.

Yea it's just that file, the only thing wrong is just that it doesn't play. I can skip through it and see parts of it.

I would say re-encode the file and see if that fixes it. If you didn't encode it, and it's not copyright protected, download the file again from where ever you got it.

you would need to recapture it from the original source.

Get Virtualdub-mpeg2.
Open the video, save as .avi

I get this error when trying to open it:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format"XVID"(unkown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows(VFW)compatible codec to decompress video. DirtectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
