Explorer.Exe Error in windows 2000
When attempting to open any program such as my computer or IE in windows 2000 I receive one of the following errors.

"The Shell Stopped Unexpectedly Explore.exe was restarted"

" IE. explore has Generated errors will be closed by windows".


Thinking that a virus may be the issuse I have tried browsing the system 32 directory for viruses but receive message wrong syntax or file not found, and I'm unable to launch windows update due to these errors.

any suggetions?
