Win98 Install Difficulties
I'm trying to install 98 on an older IBM (p3 600mhz, 256mb) computer. I followed this guide :http://www.waynescomputerworld.com/cleaninstall.html
All was going well. After the core files of Windows were installed, it rebooted (as it normally does)...but upon restarting, its as if the computer did not recognize the operating system at all... it takes me to the prompt saying diagnostic tools are successfuly loaded. so I removed all disks and restarted... then it just says no operating system found... So I re-ran Fdisk, re-formatted... and the same problem arises. Any suggestions? |

sounds like the first time it rebooted that the startup disk was still in the a drive.
that diagnostic tools text comes from the oem bootup disk. |

Once you begin the Setup from the CD, remove the boot floppy. Leave the CD in when you reboot so it can finish the install. When it does a reboot and asks if you want to boot from the CD or the hard drive, just leave it alone and it will boot from the hard drive. Once you reach that point, you can safely remove the CD.

Manually select the boot from CD option to start installation, then everytime it reboots manually select boot from hard disk as mine always defaulted to the CD on my older PC's

Also on many older systems, Win 95/98 would not install if the BIOS virus check was on. Try turning it off to see if that helps.

If I recall, you can go into the bios setting & make the first boot device to be your cdrom . Win 98 will auto run , then install automatically without even needing to use the floppy. (Dunno if this will make a difference to your particular problem though!)
