Need to "backtrack", unzipped something, display on side
Darned, I am using my older computer now. Really funny here, I really screwed up my new Dell! I was researching old computer systems, and unzipped a file that I thought was an information file, and it changed my windows xp screen onto its side.
I don't know how to backtrack, or even if there is a windows xp specific program in windows xp. I tried "system restore", but only June 12'th is highlighted in blue, and I can't choose, say, June 11 to go back to the system settings. I used to use a program called "backtrack", a free program that came with my old Gateway, but I don't believe I got a similar program for the new Dell. I am so stupid for clicking on something at least with the new computer. It was something pertaining to an old Tandy 1000hx. I got the file in "downloads", where I unzipped it. This has got to be the most stupid thing I have ever done! I am sure it went to "DOS" to change something there. God, I can just see me doing a system wipe out and using the restore cd's for reinstalling windows xp! Last edited by budbd; 06-12-2004 at 06:08 AM. |

You opened a ZIP file, and it went kuku without you exectuing anything inside it?
Have you tried virus/spayware scanners? Is the screen messed up when you boot into safe mode (F8 when Win is booting)? |

When I restart the machine, it flashes that little green graph correctly that windows is just getting started, but after windows loads, everything is on its side.
I haven't tried any kind of "safe mode", which you say is f8 key when trying to restart, so I might try that later. Have to go to bed right now, I am so angry with myself, and really sick to my stomach over this, haha. Nothing seems to be affected about all the programs, it seems that the program changed my computer in the way it displays everything. That will teach me for getting interested in computer history. When I unzipped the program, a black screen box came up, and sked me for changes to original programs, and I typed a "n", meaning no, and I wasn't allowed out of the black smaller box screen, letting me really think that was a "DOS" screen. After I typed the "n", I figured I could have been saved trouble by unplugging my machine right then and there, and haha, that did not work, cause after I plugged it back in and windows came up, that is when it was first showing everything on its side. It is almost like a video driver is screwed up, I have onboard "built in" video presently from Dell computers, "Extremem Graphics2". I have run a virus scan, no viruses. Nope, it is like that little file reprogrammed my computer, likely some kind of older version program for an older version of ms-dos, since I was researching vintage computer of tandy 1000hx on google. I haven't lost any data, and there is nothing else wrong seemingly, just that I get a sore neck looking at the screen. Thank God I have a second computer, other wise I would be looking sideways to do this, haha. Last edited by budbd; 06-12-2004 at 07:29 AM. |

Here is a link to that page, and they are just a bunch of setup programs, and I picked "Tandy 1000hx at the very top, downloaded and the unfortunate happened.
I never thought something pertaining to computers so old that there is no way they are online, could actually be anything that could screw something up.. I will look for that screen rotation thing you talked of. There is the link below. http://support.radioshack.com/setup.htm Last edited by budbd; 06-12-2004 at 09:30 PM. |

Okay, I did the rotation thing, and it is corrected. It kept on going back to the sideways till I did "rotation disable", and now it stays.
