hidserv.exe
Just did a clean install of w2k, downloaded windows updates, restart, and upon restart i now get the error "hidserv.exe generated an error and had to be closed"
what gives? |

According to Microsoft, hidserv.exe is a file in Windows 98 Second Edition. It stands for Stands for "Human Interface Device Service." It is a file that deals with keyboards, mice, and other devices connected through the USB bus.

either the file is damaged or a usb device you have needs a driver update afraid this is going to be a trial and error type fix

List your installed USB devices, please.
You should not install Win2K with any USB devices plugged in, they should be properly introduced after installation. |
