windows XP reformat
i have searched the posts but can not find what i need exactly. i found a trojan on my comp about four days ago. i ran anti virus and killed it but my machine kept fing up so i have backed up my stuff and then realized i forget how to reformat. i have an XP "recovery console" for use only with an HP computer. i cannt get it to do a full reinstall! Help!

For 'one' trojan?
Shutdown Restore so it can't carry over anything. If the AV is clear when you restart then you've no need to reformat and reinstall. |

i need too anyway. its very cluttered and the registry has been whacky. nearly a year and it needs a refresher. i just dotn remember how i reformatted last august.

If you're using an HP Recovery Disc, which it sounds like you are, pop in the Recovery Disc, and as your machine is booting, press the [F10] key, and you should be able to restore everything to the factory settings.
If you have an actual Winodws XP disc, go into the BIOS, set the boot order to your CDROM first, and boot from the CD, then follow the menus. |

Just dont nuke the partition with the BIOS information on it.

I have a Win XP Pro from Microsoft and I just pop in the CD in Windows and follow the instuctions and it works, very automatic, I don't know for HP though.
