Question wierd internet problem

So I just formatted my pc..re-installed mother board drivers..video drivers and sound card drivers..updated windows..installed anti virus..updated definitions..scanned PC completely...installed Ad-Aware..did full scan and eliminated spyware....

the problem is my internet connection kinda hangs for a short period..meaning internet explorer wont work..neither will online games or anything...but here is the thing..sometimes my browser wont work..neither will i be able to play online games..but im still connected to MSN messenger and chatting live with ppl..or the browser wont work but the online game will work...i even checked the network connection and I can see that im still connected to my connection an receiving and sending packets...therefore there is a connection..

so ill be surfing the net..downloading something..suddenly the browser will stop working ( get the page resulting from no connection)...but my download will continue to download! can u see the contradiction?

I contacted my ISP provider and they asked me to verify that I have filters on my phone lines..that all 3 lights are solid on my modem (dsl)...

they suggested I contact my PC manufacturer...

Im running on Windows XP Pro w/SP1 on an ASUS A7N8Dlx mobo with a GeForce4 Ti 4400 video card. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Sound card. My OS is on a 40Gb Maxtor HD.

1 thing that I noticed but may be insignificant is when I hit ctrl+alt+del and then randomly close processes the connection returns..but so far I havent been able to prove this theory because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt work..which leads me to believe that either I coincidently closed a process while the connection randomly came back OR by triggering or closing random processes I sometimes get my connection back.

I'd have to say it's not your dsl connection.
It's got to be something with your pc or with IE. I'd kind of lean toward IE. Just out of curiosity, are you sure that you ran a complete and thorough Spyware? My wifes computer did many strange and weird things when Spyware got in there!

You need more than Ad-Aware these days, and you have to make sure you update whatever you use before you scan. Suggest you also use Spybot S&D.

Are you connected through a router, or direct to the modem with a PPPoE client?

update

Here is an update:

My theory was kinda right, my itnernet started acting weird again..so i went into the procceses list and saw "Automgr32.exe", im not 100 % sure of the spelling..but i know it started with Auto and ended with 32 and the middle part seemed like manager...anyways..so i right click it..and close it...oila...internet is back and running!! but the thing is.. i dont always see automgr32.exe...soemtimes its running there for me to close...

Also, i run Ad-Aware every 4 or 5 hours on my pc and it always finds stuff and deletes it...

hope this is more info..
