getting report of non present devices in xp
just a couple of days ago i saw a thread with a method of getting xp to report it's non present devices.
like if you have had different hardware and thought it was uninstalled it might still be in there being hoarded by xp in case you stick in the former device again. this thing is run with cmd. shows icons for the devices present and greyed icons for non present devices. can someone steer me towards this information again. i have tried searching but to no avail. alan |

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but go to Device Manager. At the top, click on View, then select Hidden items.

no, this is what panama suggested in his post but done with device manager's hidden device revealer.
what this thing does is shows devices that ARE NOT any longer installed but are lurking around in XP. Those are the devices which are greyed out icons. supposedly this slows windows down a little. windows keeps this information just in case you reinstall some hardware you removed. i have been searching non-stop for this thing and am about to give up but it was interesting to me when i read it. |

Think this is it, but it's not a program. It involves editing the registry so be careful
