Program files unreadable
This seems like a bizarre problem; I hope someone out there has seen it.
I'm running Windows XP Pro, and just recently, a message pops up in my system tray saying that C:\Program Files is corrupt and unreadable and I should run the chkdsk utility. The message pops up intermittently when I open a program, and always pops up during start up and shut down. When I go to Windows Explorer and try to view the Program Files folder, it is blank. I right-click on the folder and go to Properties, and it says that the file size is 0 bytes. All programs seem to be running fine otherwise, but I'm afraid that this is a symptom of a bigger problem. I'm sure how to go about running chkdsk, either. I thought this was a DOS thing, and XP wasn't DOS based? Or am I wrong? Last edited by girltech; 06-14-2004 at 11:10 PM. |

Sounds like a pretty nasty error.
Right click on the C drive in My Computer->Properties->Tools->Error Checking **** Note that this could possibly make things worse. Do a BACKUP First. **** |
