Unhappy dmis

I am loading windows 98 on a new system! It was almost complete ! it restarted then gave me a message saying - While initializing device ndis, windows protection error need to restart computer! When i restart it goes to safe mode! the system is a soyo p4x400 lite motherboard,p4 2.8 processor,pny 5200 128mb graphics card , 256 mb ddr 400 ram. please help

It may help just changing the memory because this can be one of the main causes of this problem. Or the installion CD you are using isn't being read correctly by the CD-ROM drive. If it is possible try installation with a different copy of Win98 if you have one at hand.

Shane - there's a patch for that error over at the Microsoft site. It seems to be a timing issue with processors greater than 2ghz on some motherboards.

After you install the patch, you should be OK.
