Not sure if this will help you or not, but I found this article from the micro$oft knowledge base.

Did your Registry show the value as C:\My Documents?
Since you are running WindowsMe, you have the option to try a restore point from before the trouble using the built-in System Restore [assuming that System Restore isn't disabled - if it IS disabled, you could try booting with a bootdisk to the command prompt, and type scanreg/restore and see if you have a saved Registry from before the problem. An over-the-top would do the trick too, probably, but it's likely overkill for this situation. However, if nothing else is fixing the trouble, here's the link http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=70846 . . . Gary [p.s. ...might want to run full system AV and antispyware scans, too, since such can cause mayhem to system files] |

Did Norton find & clean a virus during installation? Your current trouble might be a byproduct of the virus.
If Norton found a virus in your Restore folder, but wasn't able to clean it in there (a normal situation), you may not have your restore option, without first cleaning the file in DOS. (If not cleaned first, the Restore would also bring an active copy of the virus back). If it turns out you need instructions on how to do that, let me know [I'll have to watch my typing if I send those along, the procedure has some one letter parameters that have to be typed exactly]. You can also check at the Symantec/Norton Knowledge Base at their support site to see if they have an issue with your version. . . . Gary |

WinMe is an OS from hell
I also have been running the recovery CDs for my laptop about once a week or more. Seems like WinMe conflicts with every driver I use. MS states that WinMe conflicts with IE5 and IE6 (especially the mshtml.dll file), a known issue, but MS offers no fix for it. Basically, MS says live with it.
WinMe's restore feature is absolutely useless. Your computer has to be running perfect for the restore to work. If it's running perfect, you don't need restore. I finally switched to Win98se and it's been running reliably. WinMe is your punishment for some sin you had committed in your previous life. |
