Icons are all the same
I am running Windows ME. When I restarted my computer thei morning all the icons (that are shortcuts) changed to look all the same. The icon is for Cool Edit Pro 2.0. How can I change them back to what they were originally?
Many, many thanks for the help! |

I'm not familiar with Cool Edit Pro, but apparently when you installed it, it added it's icon as the default for internet shortcuts. Since it seems to be a program that provides a greater variety of nice-looking icons for its users, there is probably a way to change those in Cool Edit Pro itself.
System Restore would probably provide you your original icons, but I'm not sure what effect that will have on your Cool Edit installation. I'd give your new program a shot, and then if that doesn't work, try a restore. . . . Gary [p.s. ...I suppose I should mention that you always have the old faithful of selecting an icon manually! You'd right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and then select the "Change Icon" button & browse to an icon you'd like ---> this is rather tedious, however, especially if all your new shortcuts end up needing to be changed as well] [Ooops . . . one more thing. Just noticed that this is your first post here! Welcome to the PC Mechanic forums! . . . ] Last edited by GaryRouth; 06-16-2004 at 03:47 AM. |

Thanks for the welcome. Actually I have had Cool Edit Pro installed for some time. I deleted the SHellIconCache folder and got all my icons restored.
Thanks again! |

Glad that the shelliconcache trick worked for you. Interestingly enough, another post on the forums this week had a problem similiar to yours - and by golly the shelliconcache delete/rebuild didn't work. Since I don't see WinMe that often, I'll have to track down why the uneven results . . .
Something for me to do when I get some spare time . . . [maybe in the year 2007]
