Uploading OS (files) onto ftp work!?

Ok, im on vacation here in Southern California. I'm on a POS laptop that I figure will run better if it's reformatted (It's a 1.0 Celeron runnin like a 555, too much stuff installed that cannot get uninstalled, etc). It's running WindowsXP Home. I do not have an XP cd here at my house. So I tell my mom to go get one from her work, she says she would. So she comes home, saying that a co-worker of her's uploaded the XP cd on the corperate FTP. So I thought she meant he uploaded the image file of the cd. Nope, he literally went to Explore the cd and dragged/dropped all the individual files into the ftp. I am wondering, will that still work if it is burned onto a CD or do I need to have the image? Thx.

What's wrong with ORIGINAL files?

Do you have the cd key for THAT machine to make it a legal install?

Please read the FAQ. We cannot assist you if you do not have a valid CD Key for an installation.

If you have the CD Key, then you could probably burn the contents into a CD, and then download the XP boot disks from Microsoft's site.

In this situation it's legal. It's not a working copy without a cd key.
