Angry Files not found at boot up.

I just got done installing Win98 on and older IMB. It works fine, but during bootup, it stops about 3 or 4 times, and asks me about files that are missing. It says something to the effect of, "The following file was not found. _______ If you deleted the file on pourpouse............ I think this is a fairly common problem so I'm hoping some body here know how to get rid of it. Thanks!

And the name of the files are_______, _______, _______ & __________.

Might look in the System.ini, config.sys and or autoexec, bat files and REM out the offending lines.

Are you sure the IBM is working properly? Most of my computers are running Win98SE and I never see that kind of boot up problem unless something is wrong with the RAM, hard drive or IDE cables.

Ok, thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm not too sure that the IBM is working properly, no. However, it does work just fine for browsing the net, and that'a about all it's used for anymore anyway.

what are the names of the files?
the most common missing files messages i remember in win98 are related to dialup networking files.

Ditto to what tacoeater said. As I recall, you can delete the DUN connections and re-add them...

actually, they are printer related driver files. I don't have the computer in front of me right now, so I can't look at the exact file names at the moment.

. . . if they are printer-related, and the printer is no longer there, you can go to Start/Settings/Printers and delete the printer that's no longer around. Win98 may ask if it can delete some files used only by this printer, it should be OK to click "Yes". Hopefully, that will remove the .ini or .bat file references, but if not = use the REM method that EzyStvy mentions.

If it's a printer you'd still like to use, try reinstalling/updating the driver.
. . . Gary
