I installed XP Pro on a clean partition. The installation
went ok as far as I can tell. The problem that I have is that I cannot install programs from my cd or dvd drives. The installation goes so far then I either get an error, I crash, or get a BSOD. Any suggestions? Help please!! Thanks! ANTEC TRUE POWER 430W – AMD ATHLON XP 1700+ - GIGABYTE 7ZXE – 1052MB SDRAM – RADEON 9200 – 120G MAXTOR ULTRA SERIES – SONY DRU 530A DVD-CD-RW – WXP PRO |

Have you installed the motherboard drivers and XP updates yet? Gotta do that before you install any programs.

Yes, I installed my mobo drivers...I have gotten my updates.
This has been going on for about a week. The Maxtor harddrive is new. I have installed XP Pro in it 3 or 4 times now. The last time was the second clean install. I have stress tested my hardware...I have run diagnostics...I have done about all I can think of. All I am doing is reinstalling XP....getting updates and installing drivers...then..trying to install my software...getting errors and crashes. Is driving me nuts! |

You say you have run diagnostics, does that include your memory? If not, run Memtest86.
Also, in your first post you say that you cannot install programs from your opticals, have you tried them in another computer, or tried other opticals in this computer? |

Okay..let me back up a bit. I had purchased a TDK DVD burner...which I though was causing me crashes. So I replaced it with a Sony DVD burner. When I went in my case...my less than 2 month old Antec Power Supply had the wires to my (older) hard drive and my floppy burned up. So, I replaced my Power Supply...my floppy, and my hard drive. I installed my XP Pro...and everything seemed fine....until I started installing programs. Now, I think I can install fine from the net...and from setup folders I have on a cd. But when I try to install (for example) my Sony software...(from cd).I get errors...crashes...etc. I can't remember all of the errors...there have been so many.
So, I did an In Place with the XP....and same thing. After a few more days of this...I once agan did a clean install. That was 2 days ago. I was taking my time...to be sure the XP was okay...and all seemed fine. Today I tried to install a brand new card making program...and I had 3 crashes...and 1 BSOD. THAT corrupted something in the Registry that Windows said it fixed. I did test the memory..I think my memory is okay. Last edited by KC1213; 06-17-2004 at 06:14 PM. |

is it only when installing from cd that you get the error? maybe the drive is bad, or the CD. I suggest try installing with another CD drive and other CD's

It is from any drive I try, and any software application. My new power supply (antec 400W) burned up, and I don't know what it may have possibly fried. I am replacing my mobo, cpu , and memory. The drives are already new....as well as the hard drive.....since the power supply incident. I also am doing another clean install of XP Pro. Am hoping all of that takes care of my problem. Who knows. Thanks for replying.
