Another first for me

Working on a customer's computer tonite. Micron Millennia, PIII 866MHz. Owner had attempted to "delete files to prevent pop ups and I don't know what I did but now it won't even start". Wouldn't boot, so I removed the hdd and copied all their critical files to one of my hdd partitons (virus scanned the entire drive first. Found 2 trojans). Next I did an over the top install to repair 98se. During hardware installation I started getting error notices. Control Panel error, missing or corrupt .dll files (4 of them). When it does finally try to boot, Explorer shuts down due to performing an error. I don't know what she deleted, but repair doesn't seem to be an option. I'm in the nuke and pave stage right now.

Question regarding this machine. It has 2 exhaust fans in the rear, both of which are nearly bound up. Fans didn't run on power up, so I pulled them and installed one of my spares. I know it is good but it doesn't run either. Is it possible that the fan connectors are tied in to a temp sensor so they will only run when the case interior heats up?

Are the fans connected to the MOBO case fan header? If they are, the header could be bad due to the bound up fans. See if you can connect to a spare molex from the PSU.

tried my spare on another connector and after moving the ground wire, it ran fine. Tried it on the two connectors that were powering the case fans and still nothing. You may be right, think the case fan header is gone. May just run with the one fan for now.
