Cannot Get Out of Power Saving Mode?

When I turn my computer on, it goes into Power Saving Mode and will not go past that. The computer has been working fine for months, then all of a sudden, it does this. How do I disable it?

Are you able to boot up entirely? Can you get past the login prompt? Do you see the XP loading screen? Are you sure it's not just the monitor hibernating? Have you messed with any Power Saving Options in Windows or the BIOS? Please clarify. Thanks.

I can get into the BIOS. It used to ask if I wanted to boot into safe mode. I said yes, that didn't do anything. That's the farthest I can get. I can see stuff, so I am pretty sure it's not the monitor. I never messed with any settings anywhere.

Sounds like a repair install is in order.

Agree with Dragon.
The only question that remains is what did in the install.
So be ready to run a vitus scan and check for malware.

Go into the bios and set the cd-rom to first in the boot order.
Save and exit , put the XP cd in the drive before you exit the bios and the computer will do the rest.
The first option to repair the install will be the Console which you don't want.
The second, when you get to the installation screen, will give you 2 choices. Fresh install or repair.
Press R for repair and follow the on screen instructions.

I'm having the same exact problem with one of my computers, only the monitor hibernates before I can even get into the BIOS. Does this mean it's a problem with the video card?

It would be a better idea to start a new thread rather than bring an old one back from the dead.
The video set up is prime suspect.
If you can still hear the comp booting up but you don't see anything then the monitor is the first thing to check out.
If everything just comes to a halt (and by the way are you getting any beeps at boot up?) then yes the video card is suspect and should be checked out but it could be other things as well.
Please post the computer's specs for us.
