MSConfig on Windows 2000?

I have a customer that has a machine with Windows 2000 and I need to disable background services in a way that thet stay disabled even after a reboot. I can do this in XP with MSConfig but I don't know much about 2000 (does it even have something like MSConfig?). Also what are the minimum background apps that need to be running for the machine to function? I can remember in the old days of gaming I would disable everything but systray and explorer....lol.

As additional info this is a DVR over IP that he accesses from another city and we are trying to free system resources to speed up the streaming media (audio and video).

Windows 2K doesn't come with MSCONFIG installed by default. You can either use a registry cleaner or edit the registry values yourself. Personally, I find editing the registry myself to be faster.

For a good rundown on services, check out this website: www.blackviper.com.

Windows 2000 does not include MSconfig but I have been using MSconfig with Windows 2000 pro ever since I started using Win2000. That's because I couldn't stand to be without it. I don't remember if I downloaded it from somewhere or I took it out of win98 but my version number is 5.1.2600.0 and that's probably close to 2 years old. All I did is copy it into the System32 folder of the WINNT folder. I know there is a System folder too. I wonder if it would work in that folder. My copy is 142K. If you can't find it anywhere, it would be no problem to send it to you.
