Balloon Popup
I have a question. On my daughters computer everytime the computer is booted up, I get the following balloon popup....View newly discovered UPnP Devices.. How do I turn that off? I have not added anything in quite awhile. Thanks

Does it tell you what it's detecting or is it just a generic message saying it's found something but not telling you what?

Which version of Windows is her computer running? Did this message begin immediately after you made a hardware/software change?

That sounds like it could be something to do with networking (i may be way off here though) are you running the machine on a home network?
Is there a network card installed, if so it may be trying to locate drivers for it. Last edited by Designer; 06-22-2004 at 09:37 PM. |

Residential gateway is something to do with a network. If you are on a network this is the computer that allows the other computers on the network on the internet. If this you are on a network maybe the configurations on your daughters computer needs changing.

Hi all
I've been away on vacation for a week or so - - - ! [to a location with forbiddingly slow dial-up connections] ![]() Just to be sure it's not something untoward in the UPnP service causing the message, you might run a full system antivirus and antispyware check with up-to-date definitions, just to be sure. And it's possible that installing Microsoft's WinMe patch for the UPnP service will help. If you don't have any devices that require UPnP, you can remove it from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I don't have a WinMe system nearby, so I can't remember if it's in the first window of Add/Remove, or if you'll have to go to the System or Setup tab. If your daughter's computer connects to the Internet through a home network with a router that has a hardware firewall builtin (and enabled - usually so by default), you probably don't need UPnP's help discovering devices. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. . . . Gary [p.s. ... here's the link to the MS WinMe UPnP patch http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;314757 ] |
