MSN messenger update/reinstallation woes
Ok, I got a serious problem with MSN messenger. I need to use it because I like to see when new emails arrive.
HOW THE PROBLEM STARTED: 1. Messenger can no longer be "exited" I can sign off, and when I do the messenger is still in lower bottom corner. The only wa to turn it off is through alt-ctrl-delete then close msmsg.exe 2. I decided to uniinstall Messenger then reinstall the latest version. WHAT PROBLEM IS NOW: 1. When installing latest version of messenger 6.2 (I think) it installs. Then when I try to run it, a window with red circle and white cross inside pops up and says that that messenger is not configured properly and cannot run. restarting application may help solve the problem. 2. Restarting doesnt help. 3. Uninstalled the messenger 6.2. Reinstalled Messenger 4.7 from Windows XP cd. It works, but its 4.7, its not 6.2. And it still cannot close like described in beginning. Please help

you must have the older version turned off before installing the 6.2 one.
and only start the 6.2 one to run messenger. |

Hi Calmius:
When you say 'Messenger' you are forgetting a rather important component. MSN Messenger is entirely different from Windows Messenger. Both can co-exist, but both will usually run at the same time (however not with the same passport account) http://messenger.msn.com/Help/#LQ3 I don't know what MSN Messenger is but msmsgs.exe is the Windows messenger. |

I think windowsw messenger and msn messenger are the same because when you type each name in google, same sites come up.

ok, it seems that
Windows messenger is version 4.7 while MSN messenger is version 6.2 I dont understand Anyway. Maybe you can help me with this, when I install Windows Messenger again, it works. BUt when I want to close it on bottom right, although no program is using it, it keeps telling me that some other application is using it, so it cannot close. |

Sorry, outlook express uses the messenger client by default.

The programs that I'm aware of that use this service is outlook, outlook express, and remote assistance.

There has to be some program that uses it and I'm sure it would be a MS program. Just how did you remove outlook?

MSN Messenger will not close when your Hotmail inbox is open.
