Angry Fire Huge Upgrade problem from windows me to XP

I am trying to install windows XP pro on an HP pavilion 7840 machine windows me machine. I have tried hundreds of things but still get the same error when I try to install XP.
Stop 0x0000000A Irql_Not_Less_or_Equal

HP support doesn't have a clue what I should do.

I have tried formatting the hard-drive and trying to install ME but still the same problem.

Cool

I would try some different RAM. XP is particular about RAM so make sure that it is quality RAM and not the cheap generic stuff.

It sounds to me like a RAM error message and may be worth while trying some different memory. If it still causes the problem it may be a fuction on the board that is stopping the upgrade installation.

Great!

In fact it was a memory problem.
I had a 256 DIMM Crucial stick and a 128 generic that I bought for the system years ago.
I took out the 128 and the system is running smoother than ever and I am able to install XP Pro.
You guys summed up in a sentence the solution that HP couldn't give in hours of support.
Thanks.
