WinXP Continuos Re-booting at Startup!

Hi all

This has been posted before but the solutions didn't really help much since some circumstances aren't the same so here we go...

Last week I reformatted my computer just to clear everything up and start over new. Before formatting no hardware problems, no software problems nothing. The problem appeared after the format. This is about my 6th time of formatting and I never had problems before. But now whenever I shut down the computer for more than 2-3 hours and when I start up again from the power the computer brings up DOS-screen: "Sorry your computer did not shutdown properly and this could be due to some software problem...etc" with the options to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Configuration and Start Windows Normally. Selecting any of these options would cause it to perform the load process in the WinXP loading screen for a few seconds and then restart the computer by itself. However, after a couple of tries (15 - 30minutes) of entering different options I do manage to get into windows but as of late the problem seems to be getting worse (harder to get into Windows) and am afraid that I might not be able to start up windows at all. If I select the Safe Mode option it won't load up WinXP in Safe Mode at the first try but after a few it does.

I've scanned for virus', Used the "sfc /scannow" feature, scanned for spy-ware using Ad-Aware and HiJack This, Removing and putting back all peripherals connected to the USB Ports since I read somewhere that USB controllers could be a problem and have also tried other smaller tricks to no avail.

My computer specs are:
IBM Netvisa
Celeron 950Mhz
256MB ( 2 128sticks using 2 DIMM's)
20GB Harddrive
Intel Extreme Graphics
USB 2.0 connected to Mouse/Keyboard/Printer/Joystick
WinXP Home with SP1
10/100 Ethernet currently connected to DSL Modem

After formatting all I did was install simple software such as Office, Photoshop, some games, etc.
As for drivers, I custom installed (not default XP drivers) Intel Graphics Driver from the website since the driver that comes with Windows after the format was somehow corrupted and wouldn't let me run some games and the Lexmark Printer driver. All other drivers are the originals and appear to function properly.

I read in a post on this forum that by turning off the "Automatic Restart" under Advanced options in My Computer might let me see the error. But if I choose that I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to enter Windows at all. Atleast I can for the moment after half an hour of trying.

BTW I do not have ANY XP CD's from IBM. They have a hidden partition with the OS setup and drivers somewhere on the harddrive which allows me to get WinXP back after a format.

Anyone know the cause or better the cure for this problem. I REALLY do not want to reformat again since Windows works fine ONCE I GET IN!

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Is there anyway you can make XP, on it's hidden partition, act like a repair install?
Reinstalling it over the current version without formatting ?
Does your manual mention anything like that ?

edit : Scroll down to the second half of the page about what to do if the computer will pass the post test but still won't boot correctly : http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/si...id=MIGR-4XVQAL
