Terminating an MSDOS program in XP
Hi,
I have a new install of XP Pro w/ sp1. I'm need to run an old DOS program, it's basically an accounting program. The information is used for research at the University of Ky so it's not a commercially available program. I've got it installed and I'm trying '98 compatibility mode because it worked fine in '98. The problem is when I try to exit the program. I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and end it in Task Mgr. In '98 you could set the program to open is DOS mode inside Windows and there was a setting for terminating it also. I know XP isn't supposed to have a DOS mode anymore, so I can't find that setting. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks |

When you try to shut down the program from within the program, what happens?

It doesn't recognize any exit keys or the mouse. I can open the program and work in it. You have to save your work before you can quit the program. I can save and after that it stops responding. That's why I have to end it in task mgr.

It sounds like the program just isn't very compatible. Running it in compatbility mode isn't the same as real DOS. Unless you can get a newer version of the program, you don't have many options.
If it is very important, set up a dual boot. |
