STOP ERROR 0x0000007B" INACCESSIBLE_BOOT-DEVICE.

I initially built a PC with the ASUS A7V8X-MX SE KM400/VT8235 motherboard and the following components;

CPU: AMD ATHLON XP 2500 BARTON
RAM: KINGMAX DDRAM 512MB DDR333 PC-2700
HD: 80GB WESTERN DIGITAL 7200RPM 8MB

Unfortunately, I found the board to be junk in terms of both the onboard Grahics and Sound. I have replaced the moterboard with ASUS A7N8X-X Nforce2 400 chipset.

After replacing the motherboard, I have encountered another problem with the OS. When I boot up, I get the following "STOP ERROR 0x0000007B" INACCESSIBLE_BOOT-DEVICE.

One of the suggested solutions is to run CHKDSK /F/R on the system partition.

I made a WIN98 boot disk and started the PC but the Win98 boot disk does not have the CHKDSK command. Is there any way by which I can start my PC with a Win2000 bootable disk in DOS that has the CHKDSK command? I have also read somwhere that I have to use the CHKDSK command from WIN2000.

My hard disk is NTFS formatted.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

If you just hooked up your old drive without doing a repair install windows is lost.
So if you haven't already, go into the bios and put the cd-rom first in the boot order and then boot it with the XP cd.
When it gives you the option of doing either a fresh install or a repair install choose repair.
The repair may or may not work so you may still end up reformatting and doing a fresh install of windows.
