WIN 95 shuts down at desktop

A fellow teacher brought in an old CPU for me to fix. It boots up to the WIN 95 desktop, some of the icons appear, then it shuts down to a blck screen (although the green power light stays on)

It does start up in safe mode, but I don't know what to do once I'm there. I've turned off almost all startup programs from msconfig, and renamed autoexec.bat and system.ini to bypass those, but nothing has worked so far.

What should I be checking?

(there's nothing I enjoy more than working on someone else's disfunctional computers during my summer vacation!)

Never mind---i just turned off ALL of the startup programs and now it works. Just a process of elimination to find out which one is the culprit.
