Won't shut all the way down
Windows XP won't shut all the way down. I just reformatted it for the 2nd straight time so I think its a hardware issue. It gets to the "Windows is shutting down" screen and freezes. The hard drives shuts off but power remains to the motherboard.
Intel P4 1.7 Intel D850GB MB WD 30gig HD 256mb pc133 Any ideas? |

There is always power in your computer even when turned off. When mine is off my mouse still has a red light and I have a green LED on my MOBO that still works. So unless I didint understand your what you said well you shouldnt have a problem.

I understand that, my onboard NIC lights are always lit and the motherboard has a certain amount of power when computer is shut down. But in this situation it gets to the blue "Windows is shutting down" screen, the hard drive distinctly clicks off and that windows freezes. The cpu fan continues to spin.

Thanks Ghost for responding! I just updated the inf on the chipset and now it shuts down. Its an older motherboard so I thought it might work and it did.
