Sometimes things slow down.
I am not sure if this is a widows problem or what but lately a lot of the time my system takes forever( up to 30 sec or never) to open a program or load a web page or just about anything. I have an AMD athalon K-7 1 gig processor I believe it is and am running windows ME as an OS. a Linksys wireless router system. I switched from IE6 to Mozilla recently.
I just scanned, repaired and defragged all the hard drives, run AVG, Adaware and Spybot S&D but this hasn't helped. I shut down most of the stuff in startup that didn't have to do with protection and it still acts the same. It is weird because sometimes the same page will open fast but other times slow. Hardware Dr. shows everything runnig to specs and right now as I type this my resourses are down to Sys 74%, User 74% and GDI 80% I hope someone can tell me what the problem is as it is driving me crazy.

Might check in that your Bios settings haven't been jumbled as a result of a power surge (perhaps mis-detecting the athlon as a slower cpu, or applying the wrong timings for the memory)
. . . and just to see, test the Memory with MemTest86 (I think it's over at download.com). Spyware does figure into this sort of thing, but it looks like you've covered that pretty well. A last resort might be an over-the-top, but you'd definitely want to make sure you disable the Bios AntiVirus during that, and disconnect from the network. Details are in http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=70846 Your resources at 80% should be OK. If you want to research your background processes, you can poke around at http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk (look at the Startup material) and at http://www.answersthatwork.com (look in on the TaskList material). Best of luck . . . Gary |
