I need some major help...I posted in the Security forum about a PC i'm cleaning. I couldn't get it to boot so went into MSConfig and enabled /Safeboot under the Boot.ini tab. I also checked the Network radio button. Now, it looks like XP Home is loading but after the splash screen it just goes black. If I hit F8 I can choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt, it loads the drivers and it freezes there. Need some help desperately...
![]() Thanks... e.n.

Easiest fix I'd think would be a repair/install. Boot to the XP cd, select new installation (not repair console) and when it recognizes that an os is already on the system, you'll have the option to Repair. No programs or files will be affected.

Only one problem with that Panama, I don't have a copy of XP Home. I tried it with my Pro CD, but it won't give me that option.

I got ahold of their Gateway Recovery CD. But even that didn't give me an option to repair. So no other choice but to do a clean install.

Yea, that's a problem with prebuilt machines. You have to wipe everything and start over. If you need to save files, just remove the hard drive and put it in your machine. Transfer the files to save to a holding area until you finish the reformat. Then reverse the procedure. Good luck
