Safely remove hardware
How do I get rid of the annoying "safely remove hardware" icon in my taskbar? on mine it lists my dsl modem as the hardware it wants to remove and on my friend's new rig it displays his wd raptor as the hardware to be removed
...any ideas?

If your using XP, you can use the "always hide" incative icon in the start menu/taskbar properties.

Speaking of hiding stuff. I stumbled across this and dlwonloaded it:
Tray Pilot Lite - hide the system tray Tray Pilot Lite allows you to hide all System Tray icons at the click of a button. It can be useful if you have too many icons in your System Tray and there is not much space left for the minimized windows of your running applications on the taskbar. Just click a small button to the right of the System Tray and your System Tray will hide and make room for the taskbar. An optional full version allows you to spare the system clock display. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/traypilot.html |

the "always hide inactive icons" are enabled but the icon is still there...it leads me to believe that it is causing a problem since it's not seen as inactive...is there any alternative to tray pilot lite? i'd rather not install more software for my comp...i'm a minimalist when it comes to installing stuff and organizing my desktop..

I hate to ask this in view of your last remark, but do you have spybot S&D and/or adaware? If not get them and use them. They will help you get rid of any and all spyware. It may help.

are both peices connected via usb?
If so, try connecting the modem to an ethernet port instead. Last edited by DilLy; 07-04-2004 at 11:01 AM. |

I would think it would hide an inactive icon after it decides it's inactive. I don't know what the time period is but resist clicking on the icon for a day or two and see if it goes away.

thx for all the advice...but the icon has been there for quite a while and left untouched...but still remains...and yes..i have spybot and adaware ..both of which i regularly update, use and recommend to friends...the modem is connected to usb but this is because my dell doesn't have an ethernet port (thats pretty sad..but i'm gonna pick up a network card for like $5 soon)...but it doesn't explain why my friend's raptor shows up...i'll be sure to ask him to check and see if that icon as now gone away...thx again

That's just standard for that type of modem,if you doulble click it it will remove the device, when you tell it to.
If the icon bothers you, hide it or remove it. Why it would show the hard drive,I don't know. On thinking,it could be for items that are hot swappable. Is the Sata drive using a sata power connector or standard? Last edited by Alfie; 07-06-2004 at 10:36 AM. |
