Atl70.dll
I keep getting a dialog box with the following error and don't know what I need to do to correct it.
"Can not run Unicode version of ATL70.DLL on Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME. Please install the ANSI version". I am running Windows ME. Thanks |

Is it the same program that asks for it each time you try to run it?
The "Unicode" version of ALT70.dll is intended for use on systems running Win2k/XP. The "ANSI" version of ALT70.dll is intended for use with Win95/98/Me. The program asking for the file (if it's a valid Win9x compatible program) might have a copy you can use. If it's been overwritten with the Unicode version, uninstalling/reinstalling - or a repair install - of that program - might fix it. . . . Gary |

It is Norton Antivirus 2004. I just installed it today. The OS is Windows ME so will need to be the ANSI version. What do I need to do to get it to operate correctly?

Hi Keith -
Found a possible solution over at Symantec = Error: "Cannot run unicode version of Atl70.dll on Windows 95/98 or Me . . . " Situation: When you restart the computer after installing Norton AntiVirus (NAV), you see the error message "Cannot run unicode version of Atl70.dll on Windows 95/98 or Me. Please install ANSI version." This error occurs every time that you start the computer. Solution: This problem can happen when the Atl70.dll file has been damaged or removed. The file can be removed if you had McAfee antivirus installed and you did not uninstall the program using Windows Add/Remove Programs. The problem is solved by uninstalling Norton AntiVirus, renaming the ATL70.DLL file, and then reinstalling Norton AntiVirus. Follow the steps in each section in the order listed. _______________ There are several fairly specific instructions on the exact steps you'll need to take, depending on which version of NAV2004 you have (whether standalone, or part of a suite). All the details are over at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...av&svy=&csm=no Looks like it shouldn't take too long - best of luck, and enjoy your 4th of July . . . Gary |
