Problem with mapped drives and formating disks

A while back I had a major virus/trojan infestation primarily centered around CoolWWW. Thought I had everything under control thanks to McAfee VirusScan, Adaware and Search&Destroy. About a week or two later a new problem showed up, not sure if it is related, web searches did not reveal any immediate solution.

Here it goes:
My main machine is connected to the Internet trough a Linksys router and Cable Modem. Hardwired to the router are two more machines, a library machine and my wifes desktop. Furthermore I attach my laptop to the router wirelessly (802.11b). All machines run Win 2K, the library machine uses NT 3.51.
A lot of files are shared throughout the machines, the drives of the library machine are mapped to the other desktops and laptop.

If I use "My Network Places" I can not attach or see other machines on my local network, during boot the error messages show up for the mapped drives. All other machines can see my machine and attach to the shared files and mapped drives, just not the other way around.

Then I discovered another problem. I can not format any floppies or connect to any outside media cards (Sony Memory Stick), the message "Media is not formated, do you want to format now?" appears, the format fails. I can still burn and read CD's and DVD's.

I reinstalled the network card, all network protocols, all windows updates are installed. I went through the Repair procedure by inserting the original OS disk, no change.

Does anybody have an idea? I am really running out of ideas! All scans come up clean, no manually changes have been made to the registry.

I could reinstall, the OS, as it is on a separate partition, but quiet frankly it would cost me three days to re-attach all the applications and I am really curious what really happened and if it can be fixed.

Thanks in advance,

Klaus
