corrupted system restore

i've tried to update my winxp home to sp2 rc2 and it failed to install whole thing. due to some plyz.9 missing or something like that. but anyway now that my system is restored back, the system restore option does not work anymore. it would just try to open up the window system restore and just stops. is there any way to fix this without reintalling win xp.

You could do an over-the-top install of XP using your XP system disk. This will repair any corrupted files that you have and restore any files that you have lost.

Put the XP cd in and choose to boot from cd in bios,XP will do it's thing and offer to repair, skip and choose install.
XP wiill ask if you wish to install or repair existing OS,choose repair.
XP will repair and all should be well, leaving your files and everything intact.
You will have to update your computer from XP's update page, however.
