Problem installing games on XP.

recently Ive had a few games that I cant install . I keep getting a message CRC error file doesnt match the setup file in the cab file. gives me the option to abort retry or ignore. I have nothing running in the background and plenty of space, cds are brand new/clean/original and Ive tried both rom drives

TIA bawb

For what its worth:

CRC

"Short for cyclic redundancy check, a common technique for detecting data transmission errors. Transmitted messages are divided into predetermined lengths that are divided by a fixed divisor. According to the calculation, the remainder number is appended onto and sent with the message. When the message is received, the computer recalculates the remainder and compares it to the transmitted remainder. If the numbers do not match, an error is detected."

Are these store bought games? Or games burned to cd? The main time I see this error is downloading zip files.

Might try coping the cd to a new temp folder and launch the install from there.

My friend had this problem, but he was able to solve it using a different optical drive. I would suggest the same as EzyStvy, and copy the CD to your HDD and install from a virtual drive/temp folder.

ok I cloned the cds and had success in installing the game with a virtual drive. But now my question is , do I need new optical drives ? this happened a few times before but now its gotten worse. I dont really feel like creating ISOs at every game install

thanks again for the tips guys and yes ezystvy the game was purchased a few days ago.
