Blank screen on startup

So I haven't used this computer in a long time. When I start it up, it loads normally and goes to the Windows ME screen. But after that it just goes blank. Any ideas? Am I missing any hardware or did I forget to plug something in?

Is the computer going into sleep mode? Or suspend?

What are the complete system specs?

Have you scanned for viruses, spyware or trojans?

Is there anything on that computer that you need? If you havent used it in awhile im guessing you dont. If thats the case, just reinstall the OS, perferbly a real OS and not windows me.
Oh yeah, my idea is only good if you have some operating system disks lying around somewhere, and if you dont need the info on the computer.

I wouldn't be hasty here. This may be cleared up without jumping the gun on the nuke a pave.

Can you boot in safe mode? If so, the resolution and/or refresh rate in normal mode may be greater than what the monitor can handle.
