Xp.dat file?

I notice a file called "XP.dat" sitting in my C:\ I'm just wondering what it does and whether or not it would be wise to move/remove it (possibly to the Windows folder?) It sitting there is nothing major, I'm just curious about what it does and whether or not it would be safe to move it.

Thanks, JTH

How big is the file? If it isnt too big, try openning it on your notepad, might give you clues as to where it came from. xp.dat is not a windows file, but likely the creation of some s/w you have installed.

The file is 177kb (180kb on disk). I've pasted a sample of it below. It continues like this, all the way from A through Z, an alphabetic list on the left = to something on the right.

What's the creation date on it? Ring any bells?
Seems like a collection of windows setup files. Try renaming it to something like jth.txt and run the computer to see if it gets re-created or if you have any computer issues. Make sure that you have your admin pwd handy, in case you need to enter a Repair prompt.
If it gets recreated, then you might have to check with hijack this to see what's being created.

Tons of setup programs insist on making such lists and dat files, it's not necessarily a sign of an infection or something subversive as much as it is an annoyance.
