"DRIVERS FOR THIS DEVICE ARE NOT INSTALLED"

Computer: HP 742N

Short version of the problem.......

hard drive crashed
bought new hard drive
formatted and installed XP Pro OS

it works great, but.....
In Device Manager, I have several "?" icons in the folder Other Devices. The items under this dir. are...
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Input Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Under the properties tab, they all say, "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).

I tried windowsupdate.com with no luck. It didn't come with a system restore disk either. HELP!!!

You need to install the drivers for those devices. Try the HP website to see if the drivers are available for download.

oh, and THANK YOU for the fast reply. I've been visiting this site for months to get answers to questions, but this is the first time I couldn't find an answer by searching the forums.

i did not see a driver there on the hp page for the ethernet. that would be found on the manufacturer's website by product number.
BUT
i have had some experience with these hp drivers. if you leave the yellow question marks in device manager it does not always install right.
just pick one like the multimedia and delete the yellow mark and reboot. sometimes it will install after you do that.
if it works for that one then move on to the pci input device (modem enumerator) and do the same. you said you installed the drivers and if i remember it goes all the way through and tells you they are installed.
no?
it does not look healthy to me to have two references for the video. i would delete both of those video lines.
reboot each time you delete those yellow ? marks.
Wait for someone else to comment on these things cause i might be wrong but it has worked for me.
someone else have any knowledge on these things and hp?
