Help Please

im using the xp cd, im going into recovery console and attempting to get my hard drive back. ive got problems with my cd though, it doesnt always let me get load it completly because of a scratch i think.

my computer just went into "would you like to boot in safe mode...etc" for no reason two mornings ago. since then been unable to access my pc. I was told to let it run normal into clean install, then choose repair, but that option is not coming up. perhaps because I had previously gone into recovery console and typed "fixbrm" I think this in turn has cleared my previous windows.....not sure though.

can anyone help

fixmbr ... which fixes the Master Boot Record, would not destroy your windows install. If anything, it just installed a fresh m$ boot record, and erased all others. If you had other installs, Linux or earlier windows version, it might make them inaccessible without a boot disk or external boot program.

As for repairing, yes, just let run normal, then choose repair. You have to keep going like a normal install, untill it gives you the recommended repair option, it isn't part of the menus or anything like that.

If that doesn't work, it sounds like the large scratch could be a big problem...is it on the top of the cd??
