XP keeps rebooting? help

Morning

I got a new CD Writer and upon installing it in my machine I started getting a system32 error and the machine would not start. I inserted the Windows XP CD and it gave me the option to recovery, ran checkdisk and then i did the fix boot option.

I then restarted, it then started up and before asking for password it flashed up some blue screen to quickly to read and rebooted, and it keeps doing that now.

I would just format my hard drive but I have all my family photos on it. I tried putting the hard drive into my brothers computer which worked fine, however the photos are in my documents folder and it won't let me access it as I am guessing its only accessable if you login with your password.

Can anyone offer any help to get my current system up and running or any help on how to access these photos to copy to my brothers machine and then reinstall windows?

Thanks
Haggis

first thing to try is a boot to safe mode check out this link http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp
if it starts go to control panall user acounts and remove your password
if it wont start in safe mode try system restore from a comand prompt as in this link http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp
remove the cd drive first

Unhook that new CD burner and see if windows starts properly.. If so I'd say you got a defective CD writer there and need to get it replaced, or you could have it hooked up improperly.. Check for ide cable to be in the proper direction, red stripe to pin 1, and check for proper jumper settings..
