Win Xp Pro Sound Problems

I had a Hp a305w Pc with a 40 GB HDD I removed it and insalled a 200 GB HDD.

I then installled Win Xp Pro on HDD installation was successful. I noticed that the volume icon was missing on the task bar so i went to device manager to check for any conflict and there were three

Multimedia Audio Controller

SM Bus Controller

Video Controller (VGA) Compitable

I have no trouble using my Ethernet Card.

When I check my volume setp in the control panal everything greyed out.
It also says no audio device.

My mobo is a Imperial _GL_VE 200221218

Contro panel > sounds and audio devices > "Volume" tab. Check "Place volume icon in the taskbar".

Where exactly is it greyed out?

If you're seeing problems in Device Manager, XP may not have had all the drivers for your hardware. Try downloading the appropriate drivers for the problem devices. Once the sound drivers are installed, the volume icon will most likely become active.

The icon in the control panel if i double click, i can't make any selections. I don't think applying the icon to the contrl panal will help with my sound.
There's also problems in the decive manager.

I need some drivers where to find them i have no clue if u want some more specs on my mobo and bios and chipset I'll give it.

I appreciate any help to get my sound up and running.

You can try doing that to see if it works. Getting your device drivers shouldn't be a problem. Do you know what you're using for your sound? Is it onboard or a soundcard? Check to see what company the onboard or soundcard is labeled with an go to their website to downlaod the latest drivers.

I'm using a onboard sound card. I'm having a hard time identifying the chip.

This the closest I've found to my mobo info.

Do you have your old HP restore disks yet? I've extracted drives from Gateway cd's before. Maybe you can do the same with your HP. Don't open the CD normally or let it run on auto start. If it does, shut it down, right click and choose 'explore'. Search the disk that way.
