Question ordered wrong os disk, but can i still use it?

building a comp for my first time. i just recived the os. the site i bought it from said it was an oem win xp pro disk. when it came it turned out i got punked and got a dell win xp pro reboot disk. i want to know if my msi k7n2 delta motherboard will take it when it comes time to load the os. or are dell motherboards specialy configed to be the only ones to take the dell reboot disk? it would be great if anyone who knows or has tried before to give me a hand. thanks!

I would strongly recommend that you call them up and try to return the disk. Most Dell disks are keyed in for Dell BIOS' and it might not work. It is further, illegal for them to have sold you the disk. Imagine this scenario, you need to reactivate your product or you even need to get support from MS, they arent going to take it very well that you are using a product that says clearly that it must be used with a Dell system.

Secondly, are you sure you even got the OS? Is it a reboot disk that you have in hand or a restore disk?

Cool

I presume you paid by credit card. First I would call the CC explain what happened and reverse payment.

Second I would call the vendor and ask how they would like you to return the CD. When they give you grief (and they will since they aren't reputable selling something like that) inform them that you are contacting the Attonery General in your state. And do. Also call MS and give them the pertient details.

Third always order from reputable retailers like Newegg or Mwave.
