running games on xp

i have several games that i would like to put on my comp and my rents, but they were all made before xp. specifically, the game i want on the most is roller coaster tycoon. will these old games work on xp?

i tried putting on a paintball gmae i have but the sound on my rents computer was not good (the sound is good. just not when it plays the game. very crackly).

Change the compatability mode for the game in question. Start- Programs - right click game you want and select properties. Select the compatability tab and change to 98, 95 depending on when your game came out.

Send a message via MSN to Steveaux
Just Do It!

There is only one way to find out. Create a restore point on your XP box and install away. If they don't work like you want, restore your system and you are good to go.

i installed age of empires: age of kings. it went fine on the install. when i click it to play, it says loading. then the loading screen disappears. then an error message pops up that gives me no info but asks me to report the error. i changed the compatibility to 98/me. message still pops up.

Malfunction,

I think there is something wrong with something else besides your OS. I run XP on my computer, and Roller Coaster Tycoon, as well as Age of Empires: Age of Kings run fine. I didn't even have to change the compatability settings as horsepwr described. Something is definitely not right, but it shouldn't be XP.

I think all versions of AOE will run on XP. I have them all at home. I know you have to have the disk in the drive to run it. I think you may have some other error. I know XP is very sensitive to any hardware errors. Especially generic memory.

Might be a Disk Read Error.

I have seen some errors from AOE depending on what type of install option you use. It is better to play the sound and videos from the DISK.
