Boom going grazy

[I have a HP 7850 using Window ME. I had alot of problems with it after going to dial-up. I have MSN now. I had to use a recovery disk to start over because of problems with files. I am not very computer literate

I have constantly tried to reload my printer( HP OfficeJet 710) and keep getting error. HPOIUI 03.EXE. Everything is lit up the same as before on the printer. I never had a problem with it on cable not til I moved up to the rural area and went to dial up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks

Hi moonmullens ["Field of Dreams" reference?]

. . . and Welcome to the PC Mechanic forums.

Below are some links to Hp support sites for your 710 All-in-one printer & 7850 Pavilion. If you are getting the error while trying to install the printer, some of the problem can be a previously failed installation try. In this case, one of the links is for an article with detailed instructions on how to completely remove any previous drivers. If you are getting the error when you try to use the printer, after a seemingly successful install = which function is it that causes the error? (scanning, faxing, printing, etc.) . . . Some possibilities for the errors in this case might be a conflict between the two modems (the one in the multifunction 710, and the one you are using to connect via dialup to the Internet), or perhaps a Bios setting regarding the printer has been changed by accident [for example, in your Bios Setup, the parallel port must be set to ECP for it to work]. Also, the installation routines of such multifunction devices tend to be particularly sensitive to details = sometimes complete removal of previous installations and another go at installing can help.

I'd suspect a conflict between the two modems, since previously you were on cable and everything was working fine. Did you add a modem, or was it part of the original equipment? If part of the original equipment, and if you have backups of data you wish to keep, and if there haven't been any major changes in the original parts of the Pavilion since you bought it, you can try running the Recovery Disk [make sure to disconnect from phone lines, networks, printers, scanners, cameras, etc], and then follow the installation procedures for the 710 as exactly as possible (make sure the parallel port is set to ECP first, too]. Print the instructions out if you can before starting - some HP multifunctions require you to start the installation with the devices unplugged, then to plug them in when prompted during the installation.

Since you are on dial-up, you may want to ask around to see if any of your friends have the Windows Security Update CD [available free from Microsoft]. If you run a Recovery, you'll be behind in your Security patches, and they run in just a few minutes from the CD [versus hours and hours of downloading via phone]. The CD will bring you up to February 2004, so you'll still need to visit the actual Windows Update site after that, to get the updates since then.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[if after all the above, you're still getting an error with the 710, post the entire error message here & we'll have a look. --- you might also want to try disabling one of the modems, and see if that stops the errors from occurring]
