W2K Service Packs won't install

The title says it all. What the hell is going on? I run the SP1 installer and the installer window opens then immediately closes again.

Right click on "My computer". Under your System info for where it says "Microsoft Windows 2000" What service pack does it say you have?

It doesnt specify any service pack, which is what I would expect. I recently made a clean install with an old W2K CD. I went online and tried to start with SP1....but twas all to my DISMAY!

j4ck,

You can get SP4 for W2K and it has all the info in previous SPs. I d/l'd SP4 and then burned to a disk so I can have it installed before I even go online. Comes in handy for reinstalls, etc.

Kubie,
Still the same problem with SP4. I execute the program, it opens to the License Agreement page...then immediately crashes.
Any ideas?

Two things come to mind,

Illegal copy or malware. Maybe some other system problem.

Do you get any error message upon the crash, or does it just dump you back to the desktop?

Force Flow,
It just dumps me back to the desktop.
I believe you can rule out malware since I just made a clean install. ...ahem...so I dont know what other reasons for failure you can propose...ahem... but I can say that I have installed from the same CD before, and obtaining updates has been no problem.

Has this computer been connected to the internet yet? If so, run spyware and virus scans

Is this a legal copy of the operating system?
