CD-ROM Drive goes to PIO mode from DMA!?
This has happened to me a couple of times in the past.
I inserted a CD-RW data disk in my drive not knowing it was no longer readable. After waiting for a few minutes to view the contents, I just gave up and ejected the bad disk. When I tried to play an audio CD later, I got pops and clicks all over. Not knowing what caused the problem, I did a system restore and got back the use of my CD-ROM. When this happened again with another defective CD-RW data disk, I went to Device Manager and noticed that trying to access a defective disk changed my CD-ROM drive from DMA mode to PIO mode thus causing the clicks and pops. How do I revert back to DMA mode without doing a system restore. There is no DMA option in the drop-down box for this CD drive when it was previously in DMA mode. THanks, Vic |
