Did you or any other program run a restore? Are you using any other software that does a similar thing? Have you checked for any virus? Are you sure you are logged in as the same user as you were before?

Statica..I have not run restore(dont know how)no other software that does that, been starting the same way ever since I installed Win 2K,BUT I have been trying to network this computer with another lately ...doing virus check as we speak, did spybot it found the usual with one exception that being (DSO Exploit),which I am not familiar with, but it cleaned it out. I need access to my files!!!I get access denied evry time, I can't even do a screen shot because I cant access my documents..whats happening.....GaryD

Can't you put your current harddrive in another machine to access your files? And if worst comes to worst copy everything important over to your other machine and re-format your main hard drive.

So are your files still there then? You just don't have sufficient permissions to access them?

Here's a small compendium of good reads on how to use file permissions and ownerships to take back ownership of your files.
How to set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders in Windows XP,
"Access is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder and
How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

Statica....your suggested read was good -BUT-I could not find any association to win 2K in any of them,I guess I am bound to format,I have lost just about everything anyway, one last question while I'm here,Do you think the fact that I was trying to network my two computers and I added a user to my 2K machine and not knowing what I was doing, could be all of my troubles??? Thank you....GaryD...
