winxp keep restart

Hi! I hope someone can help. My computer cannot start windows normally. It cannot get into the desktop. Everytime, I turn on the computer. It show the menu to choose for windows running as follows: 1. safe mode 2. safe mode with networking 3. safe mode with command prompt. 4. start windows normally. Then, it starts count down on 30 seconds. But any option I pick, the result is restarting. Anyone can help to solve this. I am using winxp home edition.

Thanks!

Welcome to PCMech, vervee

Do you have the option of "last known good configuration"?

Have you tried running virus and spyware scans from safe mode?

If all else fails, try booting up with your XP CD and run repair.

Same Problem

I have the same problem. I tried "Last known good configureation" and that did not work either. I tried booting with XP cd and ran repair but it still goes through the same cycle as before. I am at a complete loss on what to do. I guess the next thing to do is to take it to someone that knows computers. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

What are your CPU temps? What brand is your PSU?

Try booting from the XP CD When you see the "Welcome to setup" message, press the letter R. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /p and hit enter.

You can see the CPU temps in the BIOS. However, I doubt that this is causing the current problem.

I have the same problem when I overclock too much. Corrupted boot files. Reformatting is the only way I have found to fix the problem. Via chip board won't let me lock PCI and AGP slots. Guess one time too many and I'll fry the HD.

yes, your problems could be issues regarding overclocking. if you are overclocking...dont you may be doing something wrong. in general, though, it sounds like a memory-related issue.
while you are booting up enter BIOS (usually accomplished by holding down "Delete" during bootup). See if your BIOS has a "load fail-safe configuration" or something similar.

I had the same problem with my daughter's computer, I ended up formatting it and reloading Win XP and now all is well.
