How can I erase or delete a os selection screen on my system

I just reinstalled XP home on my new laptop because I wanted 2 partitions and wanted to clean up all the junk that the manufacturer installed. It went through all the steps and formated the selected (c) partition. But now when I boot up it asks me to select which OS I want to boot to. Why is it doing this if the previous one was erased?

Of course when I try to boot from the second one it won't boot at all. Is there a way to delete this step or line to make the computer automatically boot from the first one all the time?

Edit Boot.ini

You have to edit the boot.ini file on your main harddrive. It's right in the main folder, ex: C:\boot.ini but it can't be seen unless you change your folder options so you can see hidden files and protected operating system files. Be careful when editing it though, it can have major consequences if you do it incorrectly.

When editing the file, the timeout is how long the countdown is when you're choosing. And the default it what is selected when it starts.

Thanks,
I ran that extension and just deleted the line for the OS I didn't want. Boots directly to the main OS now. I didn't do anything fatal did I? I also changed the timeout to "10".

If it's booting directly into the O/S, you're all set. I'm not sure if the timer has an effect in this case, but since you don't need it any longer, set it to 0.
