Boom XP doesnt see HDD on reinstall/repair

I just got an error message that said there is a corrupt or missing file in my windows/config/system (or something like that) and i read alot of post saying to insert my xp CD boot and repair or re-install. I tried that, but It does not work. When the selection menu comes up to install or repair i choose one or the other and then it tells me that XP cannot see my HDD, and to make sure it is connected blah blah. Im not sure what i can do to make it see the HDD....it is connected, b/c i can see it in the BIOS. thank you for any help.
