Hello,
I just did a fresh install of Windows XP. The computer in question uses DSL (Bell Sympatico, PPPoE) as it's main Internet connection. I also loaded Norton Internet Security 2004. At this point, the computer can serf the net just fine. . . Then I loaded AOL, (as a backup connection). . . But now when I am connected via DSL, while it does connect, I can't get a web page to load. One mistake I might have made is when Norton I.S. asked me about the connection. . . for both connections I told it to use the 'home' setting. So I removed AOL, thinking it was causing the problem (i mean, it worked fine before installing AOL. . . ) However, I still can't load a web page. Did AOL bugger things up? or was it Norton I.S.? How do I go about fixing this? Any thoughts? PS. . . I am using Windows' built in PPPoE interface to connect to the net. . (the one that the wizard creates) |

Hi From Texas
This is just a thought of the wall. I have heard of some of these Norton Software giving problems. Hummmmmm , wonder if you uninstall Norton and try . See if that might be it. Re-install after your problem is OK, IF, that was your problem . This is just me a thinking off the wall. .- You might see what others post about this before you doing this operation.----------Don |

Hi ! \/\/ickes
Fr: Don GREAT ! ! !. So glad to see you found the problem. Some firewalls and Anti-virus software can at times give you a few problems and a person will knock his head up a wall trying to locate the problem. I remember when I was running ME , Zone Alarm was causing me problems and I blamed the problem on CompuServe. I re-installed CompuServe a few times and that didn't help. So , I disengaged ALL programs from starting up. In other words, when I booted up , the OS was the only thing on my monitor. My next step was to bring on my ISP and connect to the Internet (now I have only 1 program running). I was now connecting to ALL websites like it should have. Anyway , I found Zone Alarm was it. I made some setting changes in Zone Alarm after re-installing it . Problem solved.------ I am at present running Zone Alarm & AVG in XP Home.----------------Don |
